Our methodology and why
we've chosen to work this way:
IKOPS doesn't charge for any investigation or any type of
request for paranormal research. Our goal is to document and
verify that paranormal activity exists. To do so, we employ the
following methods, at a minimum:
We never investigate alone. Always in teams of two or more. That
way anything that happens can be experienced by more than one
person to verify that it happened.
We always try to document any activity with more than one
device. If we hear a sound, we record with a sound recorder,
check out EMF fields or temperature change and try to snap some
digital photos. We do many combinations for sounds, smells,
sights, etc to verify the activity as thoroughly as possible.
We use stationary IR night vision cameras to place in locations
with high reported activity, so that it is monitored the entire
investigation. At least two investigators are watching the
monitor at all times with a log sheet to notate any anomalies
observed for further review. We
sit and experience the area, room or wherever we happen to be.
We allow time for the activity to come to us in whatever form it
manifests itself. We are here to document, so we take the time
to do so. We post our findings
on the web (unless a clients asks to remain anonymous) for
others to review and debunk the evidence we capture. In some
cases, we debunk our own material, yet still post it as a
learning tool for others.
We have standardized forms to
document the location, stories told, weather and environmental
conditions. We also create a case file at the end of the
investigation with copies of the evidence and our conclusions.
We have a Medium available to us to use as another layer of
validation and verification. We bring him in after we
investigate, and we don't tell him anything of the location. He
is then asked to "read" the location and his comments are
documented via video and voice recorder. We then compare our
evidence to his statements to see if there is validation for his
readings, or our perceived evidence.
What equipment do we use? Well, we use alot of the same things
you see on television shows about paranormal investigations. We
have the following equipment that is pretty standard on every
investigation, then we'll talk about some other equipment that
is not standard: 4 camera DVR/IR
Night vision recording system. These cameras can see in complete
darkness. Several digital voice
recorders. Our investigators carry them around with them and we
also leave some laying around the cameras, to record while no
member of our team is physically present. This is how we capture
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP's). One thing to note here, not
all electronic phenomenon is voice or spoken word. Sometimes
you'll hear other ghostly sounds like footsteps too.
Several types of Electromagnetic Field meters (EMF) are
employed. We have some that read digitally, some that read by
analog needle. That way we can compare readings to get the most
thorough evidence. We have many
different models of digital still cameras, from Sony, Panasonic
and Pentax. We have digital
video cameras that we sometimes carry around with us during the
investigation if activity seems to warrant the device.
Some of our not-so-common
devices are an Ultraviolet flashlight (UV) so that we can
illuminate what is not visible to the naked eye. We are also
working on some custom items that are not currently
deployed by any other team that we're aware of. We're also
looking at animals and their ability to sense things we don't
normally sense as humans and to see how they may fit into the
paranormal investigation field. At this time, we know of one
other group that uses dogs in their investigations and claim
some success. |
